Portfolio Our synthetic sport field is especially great for bocce courts! Bocce courts feel, play, and roll like a natural grass bocce court. Synthetic courts will eliminate the maintenance of clay or real grass and stay the same color year around. Proper drainage in the timbers will allow water to drain off of the court.

It is NOT recommended that turf with drainage holes be used as it will allow the base to become soft. This will leave depressions when the bocce ball is thrown, resulting in a bumpy playing surface. It is also recommended to use a turf that has a foam backing to help absorb the energy of the bocce ball. Standard bocce court dimensions are with up to 10 to 13 feet in width (12’ is recommended) and 70 to 90 feet long (60’ is recommended). The Pointing Foul Line is 4 to 6 feet (6’ is recommended) and the Hitting Foul Line is 10 feet. The Center Line is half the length of the court.

Bocce courts can be installed over an existing court, however we recommend you use a crushed lime rock base 3”- 5” in depth. (Courts can also be installed over concrete for indoor use) The surrounding border is generally 6” x 6” pressure treated wood timbers. STI can customize any bocce court to your dimensions.

The Bocce Court is an area approximately 12' x 60'. Although this is the recommended court size, variations are acceptable provided foul lines and in-bound markers are clearly established. All courts should be clearly marked for the following:

  • 1' from side boards-in-bounds for first throw of pallino.
  • 3' from back boards-in-bounds for first throw of pallino.
  • 4' from back boards- foul line for pointing. Distance may vary provided foul lines are clearly marked.
  • 9' from back boards-foul line for spocking or hitting. Distance may vary provided foul lines are clearly marked. Half court marker-minimum distance pallino may be thrown on first throw of pallino. Courts may have additional minimum distance markers for pallino which would overrule half court markers. During the course of play; however, the pallino may never come to rest closer than the half point marker or frame is considered dead
  • Side walls and back walls are desirable. They should be constructed of wood, preferably sunken treated wood or bolted to concrete walls to provide resilience. Walls may, however, also be constructed above ground.
